    Protecting You During Storms.

    STORM SUPPORT

This page provides helpful information to prepare for and respond to storms that may affect your home, business, or communications services. Our goal is to help you stay safe, connected, and informed before, during, and after severe weather.

    Before a Storm

    Prepare Your Home & Services:

    • Save critical numbers. Make sure you have your power company’s contact information and Madison Communications customer support available.
    • Charge devices. Keep phones, tablets, and backup batteries fully charged.
    • Protect equipment. Unplug TVs, routers, modems, and other sensitive electronics ahead of incoming severe weather.
    • Backup data. Save important files and records to cloud storage or external drives.

    Know What to Expect:

    • Severe weather can cause power outages, intermittent service, or hardware issues.
    • Storm conditions do not necessarily mean service interruptions, but being prepared helps reduce stress and downtime.

    During the Storm

    Safety First:

    • Follow local safety guidance and shelter as needed.
    • Avoid unnecessary travel or outdoor activity during severe weather.

    Communications Services:

    • Our technicians are on call 24/7 to monitor our systems and respond to service issues as soon as it is safe to do so.
    • You may experience brief interruptions. We work to restore full performance as quickly as conditions permit.

    After a Storm

Check Your Equipment and Indoor Connections:

    • Inspect your modem, router, set-top boxes, or other devices for any obvious signs of damage.
    • Restart equipment by unplugging for 30 seconds and plugging back in (this can often resolve minor issues).

    Report Issues:

    • If you continue to have trouble, call Madison Communications support with details about your service issue.

    Power Outages:

    • If your electric power is out, please contact your power utility company first to report the outage and get updates on restoration.
    • Once power is restored, check your communications services; many issues self-resolve after power returns.

    FAQ

Are Madison Communications technicians available during storms?

Yes. Our technicians and network operations staff are on call 24/7 and work to maintain service and perform repairs as soon as outdoor conditions allow.

What should I do if my internet or phone stops working during a storm?

First, check that your power is on. If there is a power outage, contact your power utility company to report it and get estimated restoration times. After power is restored, restart your communications equipment by following the steps in the FAQ question below. If service still isn’t working, contact Madison Communications support at 800-422-4848.

How do I restore my Madison Communications services after a power outage?

After severe weather or a power outage, your Madison Communications services may need a few simple steps to fully restore once electricity returns.

Step 1: Confirm Power Has Been Restored

    • Verify that power is fully restored to your home or business.
    • Check that lights and electrical outlets are working normally.
    • Power may be restored in stages, so wait until service is stable.

Step 2: Restart Your Equipment (In Order)

    • Modem: Unplug the power cord, wait 30 seconds, then plug it back in.
    • Router or Wi-Fi Gateway: Once the modem or ONT is fully powered on, plug in your router.
    • Other Devices: Power on TVs, computers, phones, and other connected devices.

    Step 3: Check Equipment Lights

    • Confirm indicator lights on your modem and router appear normal.
    • Solid or blinking green or blue lights typically indicate proper connection.
    • If lights are off or red, repeat the restart process.

    Step 4: Test Your Services

    • Check your internet connection.
    • Test phone service by placing a call.
    • Turn on your TV service to confirm channels load properly.

Step 5: Contact Support If Issues Continue

If your services do not restore after completing these steps, please contact Madison Communications Customer Support at 800-422-4848. Be prepared to share which service is not working and what lights you see on your equipment.

Should I report a service issue if my neighbors are also affected?

Yes. Reporting issues helps us confirm the scope of an outage and prioritize restoration, even if multiple customers are experiencing similar problems.

Will Madison Communications contact me when service is restored?

In many cases, service will resume automatically once repairs are complete or power is restored. If additional action is required, our support team will provide guidance.

Can storm damage to my home affect my service?

Yes. Damage to a home, wiring, or exterior equipment caused by fallen trees, debris, or flooding may impact service and may require repair once conditions are safe.

Is it safe to handle or move outdoor communication lines after a storm?

No. Never touch or move downed or damaged lines. If you see damaged lines, keep clear and report hazardous conditions to local authorities.

What should business customers do to prepare for severe weather?

Business customers should ensure backup power solutions are in place, verify contact information, and safeguard critical equipment and data ahead of storms.

Does Madison Communications prioritize emergency services during outages?

Our network teams work to restore service as quickly and safely as possible, with attention to critical infrastructure and widespread service impacts.
