OUR TEAM WINS BROADBAND SKILLS CHALLENGE!
At Madison Communications, we take great pride in delivering reliable service and maintaining a high-quality broadband network for our customers. Recently, four members of our technical team demonstrated exactly why our customers can trust the expertise behind our network.
Bryan Huffstutler, Erick Goode, Greg Crabill, and Tanner Pieri represented Madison Communications at this year’s Broadband Skills Challenge and earned an incredible 10 of the 24 medals awarded during the competition. Their outstanding performance also secured the 1st Place Overall Team Championship for at least the 17th consecutive year.
The Broadband Skills Challenge is one of the telecommunications industry’s premier technical competitions. Technicians from companies across the region, including Charter, Cass, Comcast, and Mediacom, compete in seven Olympic-style events that test accuracy, craftsmanship, technical knowledge, and speed. Events include MTDR, OTDR, Fiber Splicing, Drop Splicing, Hardline Splicing, Meter Reading, and Jeopardy.
Unlike many competitions, accuracy is judged first, with points deducted for even minor errors. Competitors who achieve perfect scores are then ranked by completion time, often separated by only fractions of a second. Each event must be completed within a five-minute time limit while performing in front of judges and spectators.
This year, our team at Madison brought home nearly half of all medals awarded and captured four of the top five overall individual rankings.
Bryan Huffstutler earned 1st Place in MTDR and was named the Overall Individual Champion. Bryan will return to Atlanta, Georgia, this October to defend his title as the 2025 International Broadband Skills Challenge Champion.
Erick Goode earned 2nd Place in Meter Reading, 2nd Place in OTDR, 2nd Place in Jeopardy, and finished as the 2nd Place Overall Individual competitor.
Greg Crabill took home 1st Place in Meter Reading, 3rd Place in OTDR, 3rd Place in Drop Splicing, and finished 5th Overall Individual.
Tanner Pieri earned 3rd Place in Meter Reading and secured 4th Place Overall Individual.
In addition to the individual accomplishments, the team brought home the newly introduced Founder’s Cup, which will proudly feature their names for 2026.
